I'm so excited!!

I met with my advisor about my grad assistantship today, and he's going to have me doing some cool things! He's writing a proposal for a book on postmodernism in adolescent literature, so he's going to have me do research for that. He's also talked about updating the textbook we're using for his class, and that I might--get this--co-author an article with him! Besides all the mundane help in class preparation and the like. But wow...doing more English stuff, trying to explain theories in lay terms...good prep. And being published...that's a big step up for me. And I know that doing it with someone else will give me more confidence to do it on my own. I could have my work in English Journal along with Dr. Shosh's...weird...

And we also got our placements for our teaching practica in class tonight, and as fate would have it, I'll be teaching at Jamestown High School, Maddie's alma mater. You predicted it, Maddie! Two other English students will be teaching there too, so it will be fun to compare notes; and one graduated from there as well, so she can give us a lot of information about the teachers and school atmosphere and stuff.

Wow, so much is happening...very exciting things! My inner five year old is jumping up and down! I'm going to sign up for acapella auditions tomorrow, and I hope they go equally well. *crosses fingers*

Most recently read: The Wood Wife, by Terri Windling. I was actually looking for some of her Bordertown books, like Emma Bull's Finder, but they only had this in the library. Urban fantasy, and very like Charles DeLint; or is DeLint like her? Artists moving out to the desert and encountering shapeshifters and spiral time; but she does link the Native American views of the spirits and the landscape with European views, through the English origins of her character Cooper. A deep love of poetry also comes through in this book; and it reminds me that I miss that beauty and flow of language when I haven't read any in some time.

Total books read this month: 11. YA lit does inflate your numbers. But this also doesn't count the things I reread as well.
Total books read this year: 69
