Like the waves crash on the sand, like a storm that will break any second....

After a mopey and miserable Wednesday, cheered up in the nineteeth hour by my sister's good sense of timing to be online; and a lax and lazy Thursday to restore my faith in myself and the world (well, most of it, the situation between Israel and Lebanon is somewhat alarming), today it's just hot. At least tomorrow night my friends and I are finally going to see Illyria at the Virginia Shakespeare Festival here on campus. (Yay for student tickets!) It's supposed to be a musical version of Twelfth Night that retains most of the original language. Intriguing, no? We'll see how it turns out.

One more week of summer classes, then home for Musikfest providing all work is done! I'm excited to see the Arrogant Worms, and Seven Nations (let's hope we can understand the lyrics this time...) and Red Elvises; also the Capitol Quartet, a sax group. Yay free music!

Catching up on the books...

Most recently read: The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde. I don't know why I don't go out of my way to read more of him. He's wonderful and witty and extremely quotable. I definitely noticed lines in this book that pop up in his other works, like The Importance of Being Ernest. This book is half great plot, half Wilde's opinions on art and the role of the aristocracy. It's very interesting that Dorian is the one who suffers for his actions while Lord Harry, who started it all, is not affected.

The Persian Boy, by Mary Renault. Hey Madcap Players, I actually found a book about eunuch sex! Perhaps we should add it to Becky's collection. ;) The story of Bagoas, Alexander the Great's lover who accompanies him on his campaign through most of Asia founding a ridiculous amount of cities all named Alexandria. Not the best book in the world, and I don't know much ancient history so I can't speak as to the historical accuracy, but there was some interesting emotional and psychological tension between Bagoas and Hephaistion, Alexander's first lover.
