"Hide the rum."

Went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with the girls across the hall this weekend, and was thoroughly excited if not altogether pleased. Disappointingly (but not surprisingly, since it's Disney) less subtle than the first movie: all the references to the hilarious improvisations from the first film (eunuch jokes, etc) sounded like they were written into the second; the concept and animation of Davy Jones and his crew were a bit over-the-top; and the situations in general were exaggerated, sometimes to good effect and sometimes not. I was waiting for Geoffrey Rush to appear and was very disappointed when that turned out to be the end of the movie, but does that man ever know how to make an entrance. *grins* It pleased me greatly. As did the whole plot line with Norrington, which I didn't expect at all. Well done, scriptwriters, for that. Other wow moments, since I'm too lazy to be eloquent about them (especially when I'm not actually talking with another person--I miss the BMC crew!) : the undead monkey gag; a moment during the three-way swordfight scene on top of the church in which I thought, "Hey, this reminds me a lot of the swordfight scene from The Princess Bride"; the much more overt sexuality evident in the film; and the way Jack faced the Kraken! Not to mention I now have the music stuck in my head for what looks to be a very long time. Most addictive soundtrack I've ever heard, and that says a lot. Not pleased with the fact that they didn't make the second and third movies independent stories, but took the LOTR/marketing approach for a "to be continued" story. But I'd still go see the second one again, and I'll go see the third one, and it had better be worth making us wait.

Perhaps more on this later, when I've had time to bounce ideas off of Becky (or Rachel, etc.)

Oh, I thought Davy Jones and crew was great---and fascinating to watch! But I did think that the jokes weren't as good. I loved the ending and everything, though!
