Having the fire alarm go off at 1:30 in the morning and having your ceiling leak wildly around the florescent light is not fun. I don't mind having a boring life, really.
Just finished reading: Bethlehem Road, by Anne Perry. A generic sort of period murder mystery set in Victorian times with the main characters the Inspector Thomas Pitt and his wife Charlotte, who likes to have a go at tracking down clues herself. There's an interesting thread of women's rights and women's sufferage running through the novel, but I think the theme is better covered in Laurie R. King's A Monstrous Regiment of Women--plus I'm a sucker for Sherlock Holmes, and I love the Mary Russell books. What girl wouldn't want to be in her shoes? Anyhow, the identity of the murderer seemed to come out of nowhere, which is sort of cheating in a book like this. Maybe some people like that because then they won't be able to guess who did it right away. The main characters are likeable enough but they never get fully emotionally and psychologically developed. Maybe that's because it's part of a series...but I think it's more just the limitations of the writer. All in all, a nice, brainless read to relax after schoolwork.
