Busy busy week

It's not that late and I'm already tired. But it's been an exhausting week, what with my mom having emergency gall bladder surgery and me having to pick up the slack. I don't really mind helping out, but I have a lot of other stuff to do to get ready to go to grad school and I'm not sure how to get started and it's just a little much. Although it is nice to hear my mom tell everyone how helpful I am. If I can take care of things here, why can't she give me the credit to take care of my own life? But that's another argument...

Just finished reading: Godslayer, by Jacqueline Carey. I said before of Banewreaker, the first book in the series, that I was a bit disappointed with it as compaired to the Kushiel trilogy, and on second reading I still find some of it a bit too borrowed from Tolkein's LOTR. But it's not quite ROTK told from Sauron's point of view. Carey still has the talent to elaborate a mythology and play out the struggles of men to carry out the will of the gods, or so they think. She draws on Milton's Lucifer to paint a character defamed by all those on the side of good, who struggles not to become the evil they say he is. His struggles, and those of his followers who fight against their own destinies, genuinely pull at your emotions. In the end, it all comes down to choice, without sure knowledge if we are making the right one. Choices in the face of doubt...I guess that's what it is to be human.
