Nothing to say, just killing time...

...wrapping a tune, 'round a wasting time rhyme... ("One Minute Song", Artisan).

Yay Artisan. I'm so sad they're splitting up. But I guess they've been performing together for 20 years, things had to change eventually.

Anyway, I'm sort of in a happy daze from getting my prize from Becky...but to keep this post from being a complete ramble, I'll stick in the appropriate book post from her blog a few days ago.

Here are the current top 50 books from www.whatshouldireadnext.com. Bold the books you have read. Italicise the books you might read. Cross out the books you probably won't read. Pass it on.

The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown - I have a post about this somewhere, if you're intested in my opinion.
The Catcher in the Rye - J.D. Salinger - My Wichteln (Secret Santa) present from last year.
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy - Douglas Adams
The Great Gatsby - F.Scott Fitzgerald
To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman - One of those things my best friends love and I have a strange aversion to, whether because they feel so strongly about it or because of what it is.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter 6) - J.K. Rowling
Life of Pi - Yann Martel
Animal Farm: A Fairy Story - George Orwell - I did my research paper for Mr. Shosh on this. I had a strange illustrated version, and the pictures were really disturbing.
Catch-22 - Joseph Heller
The Hobbit - J. R. R. Tolkien
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time - Mark Haddon
Lord of the Flies - William Golding - "It's my turn to talk! Give me the conch! something something on the bridge of ronk! I mean, rock!" Ah, ninth grade and Dr. Suess poetry.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - I made myself read a bunch of classics at one time...can't remember if I read this one.
1984 - George Orwell - Started, but got distracted by something else and never finished.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3) - J.K. Rowling
One Hundred Years of Solitude - Gabriel Garcia Marquez - I know I read Love in the Time of...is it Smallpox? when I was in Dublin, and the JYA advisor saw me reading it in line to sign up for electives and was impressed. But I don't think I read this one.
Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden - Someone left this at the checker's desk, so I read it when I was working Saturday breakfast...again, couldn't finish, but want to.
The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini
The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold - This comes up on bookcrossing all the time. Maybe I should borrow it from Rachel.
Slaughterhouse 5 - Kurt Vonnegut
Angels and Demons - Dan Brown - Again, see my post. MUCH better than DaVinci Code.
Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
Neuromancer - William Gibson
Cryptonomicon - Neal Stephenson
The Secret History - Donna Tartt
A Clockwork Orange - Anthony Burgess - Possibly.
Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte - Don't know if I could stick it through on my own, but maybe.
Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
American Gods - Neil Gaiman - And the Shadow story in Legends II.
Ender's Game (The Ender Saga) - Orson Scott Card - I really liked the series at first but I got tired of it by the end.
Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
A Prayer for Owen Meany - John Irving - I think Becky would make me read this even if I didn't want to. :)
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe - C.S. Lewis - Though I really liked Dawn Treader and the Silver Chair.
Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides
Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien - Ok, so I didn't actually start reading them until the movies started coming out...but I did read them! I was so excited by the climax of ROTK that I wanted to skip class and stay on the bus to come home and talk to Kirstin.
Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte - Rachel, was this the one we read for Kliest's novel class? Why can I not remember?
Good Omens - Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman - One of my favorite books EVER.
Atonement - Ian McEwan
The Shadow Of The Wind - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
The Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway - One of those books that I feel I should read because I'm an English major, but probably never will.
The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood - I read a bunch of her things, but tended to get the feeling that I was missing something, or that she was thinking on a different level than I am. But there was a poem by her on the AP English exam that I really liked, but unfortunately could not copy for my own keeping.
The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath
Dune - Frank Herbert - Another series that had a great beginning, but that I couldn't follow to the end. The extended politics was a bit too much for me.

Just finished reading: Otherland, by Tad Williams! Surprised that the ending of the book was not the end. Another series I'll have to go find the rest of. I hope it's in the library.

READ YOUR COMMENTS!!!! And I'm sure I've told you that Otherland is a long series. I HAVE ALL THE BOOKS. ;)

Becky said...

P.S. Love in the Time of Cholera. Also, I don't think my 50 books list had His Dark Materials on it. Maybe I'm just losing my mind.

Becky said...

P.P.S. Clearly losing my mind.

You know what might be fun? If I left you an obscene number of comments on this post, and you saw it and were like, whoa.

Becky said...

Yes, I think that would be fun.

Becky said...

Maybe I should tell you the names of the other Otherland books.

Becky said...

Ok.

Becky said...

The next one is River of Blue Fire.

Becky said...

The next one after that is Mountain of Black Glass.

Becky said...

The next and final one is... shit, what is it? I can see the cover.

Becky said...

Um... Noun of Adjective Noun, I assume.

Becky said...

Gosh, all I can think of is City of Golden Shadow, which is absolutely the one you just read.

Becky said...

I meant, Noun of Color Noun. To be more specific.

Becky said...

Is the color purple? I'm so confused.

Becky said...

And I have never read that book, which is by Alice Walker, right?

Becky said...

Her daughter, Rebecca Walker, is coming to speak at Bryn Mawr sometime soon.

Becky said...

It will probably be really interesting.

Becky said...

Rebecca Walker is a writer too.

Becky said...

I saw a book by her in the store once.

Becky said...

I think it looked pretty good, but I did not buy it.

Becky said...

Rebecca Walker also has the same name as me.

Becky said...

Only different.

Becky said...

I think I might have to look up the last otherland volume's name, so I can move on with my life.

Becky said...

How frustrating.

Becky said...

Maybe this is part of the losing my mind thing.

Becky said...

Or not.

Becky said...

Ok, I'm gonna look it up now, just hand on a sec., I'll be right back.

Becky said...

(That made me think of E.T. saying "I'll be right here.")

Becky said...

But I digress.

Becky said...

OTHERLAND: SEA OF SILVER LIGHT.

That's a lot of comments. I bet you'll be surprised to see them.

LOL! Ok, I get it. Sorry. I'll be better about this in the future.
